Final Project Web 2.0 - Arcadia
Goal: Create a wiki for an 7th grade ELA class to share their Touching Spirit Bear character space projects (My Space type page for a book character) and allow student comments about their projects.
Tools: PBWiki or Wikispace Both are Wiki software that allow educators to create wikis that include no ads and include features such as RSS, HTML support, and Word-like editing capabilities.
Steps:
1. Meet with teacher and work with class to create their book projects - Almost complete
2. Learn to use PBWiki or Wikispace - working on
3. Set up Wiki, transfer student's powerpoint CharacterSpace projects to the Wiki
4. Show students how to use the Wiki, how to comment on others projects and discuss ethical use.
Challenges: Student misuse of wiki, new learning for teacher and librarian, building trust.
Follow-up: Monitor wiki regularly and make changes as needed.

I love this idea! I'm looking forward to hearing what the kids do with it. It's such a powerful book, and a fresh way to explore characters.

This sounds like a project the students will enjoy. Have they already completed the powerpoints? The ELA teacher can also use their comments for an extra writing grade. I'll look forward to seeing the finished product!

Do you have an plans to recreate this if it is successful? If this works well, you may be able to use it as a model for other teachers and classrooms.
I like the idea of this being an extra grade for the students. Any thing that helps them practice their writing and reading skills is a plus. Great work.
