Thanks to Chris Harris for helping me to figure out how to access this page. I'm really excited about this opportunity - just getting used to it all!
This is my 5th year as a SLMS. I worked at Dansville Middle School (6th - 8th grades) for 2 years as a long term substitute. Then I worked at Pavilion MS / HS (6th - 12th grades) for 1 year as a long term substitute. Now I am in my second year at Dansville PS (Pre K - 2nd grades) and ES (3rd - 5th grades). I am on a fixed schedule in both buildings working alternating days on a six day rotation schedule. I see all classes for 1/2 hour within a six day cycle. I have 19 classes in each building with close to 400 students in each building. My PS has three student computers and my ES has five student computers. Trying to work with entire classes for technology access is very tricky!
I'm still not sure which level I like the best. Each level has its joys and interesting memories.
Being a SLMS is my third career (taking into consideration my being a stay at home mother for 10 years).
My husband and I have two children - our daughter Jamie is in 8th grade and our son, Philip is in 4th grade. We live less than three miles from the school where we both work. My husband is the full time IT person for our district. There is also a 1/2 time IT person who works with him. Our children keep us very busy with their activities and we try very hard to not talk about school issues while at home! (It doesn't always work)
I decided to participate in this six week session for several reasons, the main one being my interest in incorporating technology and tools into my current Library setting. My husband is very supportive of technology and I know that I can count on him to help me out when necessary!
When I'm not at work or helping my children, I try to find time to pursue my hobbies - quilting, knitting, scrapbooking and reading. I don't always have time currently, except for the reading. I usually have at least two books that I'm reading at a time - one from my school Library and one for myself. There is a stack on my nightstand of both awaiting me. I'm currently reading The Yearling (Jody has already mentioned this book) and the last Harry Potter is next! My niece can't believe that I haven't read it yet!
Looking forward to discovering these tools with all of you. It should be interesting and hopefully fun!
