Hello,
I am currently a school librarian (and have been for the past two years) at a third through fifth grade school called Kirk Road in Greece, NY. I have always worked in education. First as a classroom teacher in Maine, NH, Luxembourg and MA, as a reading specialist in MA and then as a preschool teacher, substitute teacher and museum educator when my children were little. I think it was when I first discovered Barbara Cooney's book Miss Rumphius that I knew someday I would be a librarian, travel to far away places and try to do something to make the world a better place.
We have two amazing boys who definately make the world a better place just be being in it. Ben is 11 and Max is 10. I have always traveled to far away places, last summer traveling to Egypt with Max and Italy with both boys. And then finally I completed step three by becoming a librarian. I have decided after two years that it is just downright amazing that I can get paid for performing such an intellectually stimulating as well as monumentally fun job.
Outside of work I have just returned to the land of "what shall I do now that I have my LMS degree". What a cool place it is. I had completely forgotten how great free time can be! I have returned to kayaking, quilting, reading for pleasure, cooking and of course...travel. Our ten year old likes to moutain bike so I have to often put on my "brave girl panties" and go with him praying the entire time that my face won't be ripped off by a low hanging branch or I won't be sent careening over a log and never be able to find my way out of the woods. Ben, our eleven year old has a knack for convincing me every Sunday to head to Barnes and Noble for a snack and a good three hour read. The most danger he involves me in involves my credit card and a sore shouder from carrying an overly stuffed bag. And then there's my husband John. He's the sailor in the family. He keeps trying to get me racing but all I keep doing is racing in the opposite direction. But he is ever patient and I have a feeling that one day he may win me over to the dark side.
And now for my tidbits of randomness. I detest lima beans and chick peas but love hummus. I love post-it notes and all forms of office supplies but am not nearly as organized as I would like to be and lastly, I wish that Aboott's pumpkin frozen custrad was served year round.
TTFN, Susan
